Course Content (Syllabus)
Semiconductors under thermodynamic conditions: Energy bands, doping of semiconductors, electrons and holes,electrical neutrality of space charge, mobility of carriers and conductivity.
Semiconductors under non-equilibrium conditions: Lifetime of majority carriers, diffusion of carriers, continuity equations, applications of the continuity equations.
p-n junction: Basic technology of semiconductor devices, p-n junction in equilibrium, junction capacitance, I-V characteristics in forward and reverse mode, experimental I-V characteristics, junction breakdown, applications.
metal/semiconductor contacts: Metal work function, Fermi level, Schottky diode in thermodynamic equilibrium, capacitance, I-V characteristics, ohmic contacts.
Special semiconductor devices: Rectifiers, solar cells, electroluminescent diodes, Laser diodes.
