Learning Outcomes
During the course students are expected to familiarize themselves with the ascetical literature of the Church, to be able to analyze and interpret the content of the texts of tradition based on specific hermeneutical principles, and finally to make comparative and timeless study of the literature from 4th century to date.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course analyzes the basic interpretative principles encountered in the Ascetic tradition concerning the recruitment and interpretation of the Holy Bible. The methodology of approaching and analyzing the ascetic texts requires knowledge and familiarity of students with the Orthodox ascetic tradition and literature from the 4th century to the present.
