Learning Outcomes
After the lectures, the students will be able: a) to know the terminology and evolution of ecclesiastical hymnography, b) to distinguish the types of hymns, their inclusion in the divine Worship and their theological interpretation c) to record the evolution and importance of Byzantine music, d) to recognize the species of the member e) identify the implicit relationship between the anthem and the member as well as the implicit relationship between anthem and member and f) to describe the functional dimension of the Byzantine icon and its place in the Temple, to evaluate the importance of its worship, its Eucharistic importance and the hymnographic references to it

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course studies the terminology and development of ecclesiastical hymnography, the types of hymns, their incorporation in Divine Worship and their theological interpretation. It explores the development and importance of Byzantine music, the types of melody as well as the ineffable relationship between hymn and melody. It also examines the liturgical dimension of the Byzantine icon, such as its place in the Church, the significance of its veneration, its Eucharistic importance and the hymnographic references to it.
