At the end of the course, students are expected to be in a position to analyse words, to evaluate german sentences as to their well-formedness, to justify their analyses and to relate data to theory in a principled manner.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of this course is to provide students with a general overview of the basic themes and issues in morphology and syntax of the german language. Basic concepts such as morpheme, morph formative, allomorph, word structure, as well as the major morphological processes, such as compounding and derivation are extensively presented and analyzed. This course aims also at introducing students to the syntactic description of German as well as to syntactic theory (word categories, phrase structure, word order etc.)
