Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will:
• be familiar with the historical construction of the problem of addiction
• recognize the different approaches to the etiology, prevention and the treatment of addiction
• have developed the skills needed, in order to evaluate existing policies and interventions
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the problem of addiction. Historical constitution of the problem. Psychotropic substances’ action (both biological and psychological). Personal, family and social/cultural etiological factors. General principles in dealing with the substance abuse and addiction problems. Therapeutic communities and self-help groups. Policy, prevention and interventions.
