Course Content (Syllabus)
During the courses there is a detailed analysis of the function of the color in Byzantine painting. It is presented the basic characteristics of the Byzantine painting system in contrary with the painting system of Renaissance. In addition it is explained the way of function of the color as a structural material.
The purpose of the course is for students to understand that the color has double function. Firstly structures the icon in the level of prolepses and at the same time functions as the light that comes from the surface of the icon, so that the subject comes in the spatio-temporal dimensions of the contemplator. In this way the color contributes to the ecclesiastical dimension of the icon.
