Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the teaching of the 13 teaching units of the course: - Students will be able to compare the total transition from the attempted falsification (from ignorance or negligence) with the continuous renewal of the regular sources for which the Kollyvades worked with unparalleled zeal - In addition, students will have the opportunity to analyze how these sources significantly influenced modern ecclesiastical life and to compare the time they were created with the current situation in the Church.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course examines the contribution of the monks of Mount Athos belonging to the so-called Philocalic movement in the canonical sources of the Church. Specific sections of the syllabus is structured as follows: 1. Early canonical collections of the Ottoman period. 2. The "genuine" and "spurious" in canonical collections of the Ottoman period. The consequences of the "illegitimate" in church life. 3. The demand for renewal. 4. The collections of Dionysius Piperioti and Theoklitos Karatzas. 5. The Epitome of Canonons of Neophytos Kausokalyvitis. The Canonical collection Agapios Leonardos. 6. The Rudder (problem of authorship, sources and content). 7. The Comments of the Rudder. 8. The Kanonikon of Christoforos Prodromites. 9. The corpus canonum in the Rudder and the Kanonikon. 10. The ordinations of heretics according to Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain and Christophoros Prodromites. 11. Baptism according to Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain and Christophoros Prodromites. 12. The "genuine" and the "misunderstood" in canonical practice. The case of the Rudder. 13. The Exomologitarion of St. Nicodemus of Mount Athos.
