Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to a) give information on the Interpretation history of the Old Testament from 2nd to 5th cent., the principles and methodology; b) Understand the hermeneutic philosophy of the Church fathers; c) Practice on finding and processing the patristic hermenutical data on biblical passages

Course Content (Syllabus)
Study of the history of Old Testament Interpretation from 2nd to 5th cent. Principles and methods. 1. Introductory session. Course description. Development and current situation on the field of the History of Biblical Interpretation. 2. Periods of interpretation of the Old Testament (intra-biblical hermeneutics, 2nd Temple, Qumran, apocalyptic literature, N. Testament). 3. Interpretation of the Old Testament in the 2nd cen. (Justin) 4. Interpretation of the Old Testament in the 3rd cen. (Origen) 5. Interpretation of the Old Testament in the 4-5th cen. (S. Athanasius) 6. Interpretation of the Old Testament in the 4-5th cen. (Cappadocians) 7. Interpretation of the Old Testament in the 4-5th cen. (John Chrysostom) 8.
