Course Content (Syllabus)
the lesson will
1) contains fundamental references concerning the historical evolution of jazz examining and studying trends like: ragtime, blues, charleston, swing, bebop, cool jazz etc
2) focus on innovative figures of jazz like: Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, Bud Powel, Bill Evans, Miles Davis, John Coltrane etc and their presence and presentation in movies
3) focus on significant female jazz singers as Ethel Waters, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald κ.α. and their participation in movies
4) examine the movie's industry approach of the jazz afro american musicians concerning their social depiction
5)focus on film noir and its relation to jazz
6)offer fundamental knowledge of jazz harmony elements as chord progression ii V I, chord extensions, chord's substitutions etc
7) offer basic study material about jazz piano voicing using chords with 9th, 11th, 13th or altered chords, or rootless chord voicing etc
8) examine the involvement of jazz in movie sound or under score either as diegetic or no diegetic music or as scoring for biopics, documentaries etc
