Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: a) understand the basic distribution patterns of the organisms and historical, evolutionary and ecological processes on which they are due. b) be aware on the importance of biodiversity conservation, as they will be able to understand the factors that influence the distribution of organisms,including human activities. c) become familiar with the literature search, analysis and synthesis of information and the writing and presentation of different issues of Biogeography, working individually or in groups.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Ecological biogeography: abiotic – biotic factors and biomes. Historical biogeography. Speciation. Dispersal of the organisms. Migrations. Distribution patterns – endemism – Terrestrial and marine biogeographical regions. Island biogeography. Biogeography and biodiversity. Influence of human activities on the distribution of the organisms.
