Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of the course the student will be able to: (a) Define the technical constraints of the operation ot thermal and hydro power plants as well as the economic data describing the cost of their operation. (b) Analyze the operations scheduling of the electric power generation system and the corresponding time-scales. (c) Formulate problems related to the operations scheduling and real-time operations of a power system as mathematical optimization problems. (d) Use software packages related to the operations scheduling and the real-time operaion of power system, understanding the data requirements and the expected results.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Economic operation of electric energy systems. Electricity demand analysis - demand forecasting. Technoeconomic characteristics of electric power plants. Economic dispatch of system load to thermal power plants. Unit commitment. Hydrothermal coordination. Electric Energy Interchange. Power pools.
