Learning Outcomes
The learning goals of the course include students' understanding of mechanics of materials basics. A short review of statics and strength of materials, as well as continuum mechanics is made. During this course the students are exposed to the basic topics of mechanics of materials.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction. System of forces. Equilibrium of Rigid Bodies. Distributed forces. Trusses. Internal forces. Internal forces. Cross-sectional loading diagrams of planar and non-planar beams. Cross-sectional loading diagrams in 3D. Stress and Strain Tensors. Constitutive relations of linear elasticity. Plane strain and plane stress. Torsion. Bending. Conservation of mass, linear momentum, angular momentum and energy in continuum mechanics. Constitutive equations in 1D and 3D. Introduction to Elasticity and Fluid Mechanics.
