Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of the course the students will: (1) Understand the basic principles of numerical methods used for the solution of problems related to hydraulics and hydraulic projects. (2) Familiarize themselves with the solution of problems with the use of a computer.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Elements of numerical analysis (numerical interpolation, numerical integration, solution of algebraic systems, Fourier series, finite differences). Numerical solution of differential equations (introduction, parabolic equations, hyperbolic equations – method of characteristics, elliptic equations). Applications to flows in pipes (steady flow in networks under pressure – Cross method, unsteady flow – hydraulic hammer). Applications to flows in open channels (steady non-uniform flow, mathematical model of unsteady flow, motion of flood wave). Applications to flows in porous media. Applications to problems of diffusion-dispersion (mathematical model of diffusion-dispersion, numerical solutions). Introduction to finite element method. Applications.
