Learning Outcomes
(a) to familiarize students with an important genre of ancient Greek literature (Lyric poetry) or an entire period of Greek poetry (the Hellenistic era).
(b) to help students study the work of one or more representative poets of either Greek Lyric or Hellenistic poetry.
(c) to acquaint students with the style and dialects of ancient Greek poetry.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The class includes an introduction to the literary aspects of ancient Lyric or Hellenistic poetry, while the core of the course is devoted to the study of one or more Lyric or Hellenistic poets. All texts are taught in the original Greek language and emphasis is placed on their linguistic and interpretative analysis.
