Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students would be able to read representative samples of majuscule and miniscule scripts. They would also be able to identify and date characteristic types of these cripts. Finally, they would be in a position to explain how and why paleography is a vital tool in the hands of the editor of Classical and Byzantine texts.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Study of the development of Greek script from Late Antiquity to Late Byzantium, through the close reading of selected samples of majuscule and minuscule scripts. Study of basic elements of textual criticism (e.g. types of scribal errors) and editorial technique.
