Learning Outcomes
The aim of this course is the training in nucleic acid biochemistry and particularly on the biochemical mechanisms by which the genetic information is replicated and expressed. Also we focus on the teaching of the biochemical and molecular basis of the immune system, sensory organs, and certain other tissues (e.g., connective tissue, blood, muscle tissue, etc.) as well as the teaching of the biochemical basis of the respective diseases.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Structural characteristics of DNA and recombinant DNA technology. DNA: replication, mutagenesis and repair. RNA: Transcription, synthesis and processing. Protein synthesis. Regulation of gene expression. Biochemistry of the immune and sensory systems. Biochemistry of erythrocytes, Blood clotting and fibrinolysis. Biochemistry of connective tissue and extracellular matrix. Biochemistry of molecular motors and nervous system. Hormones.

Student Assessment
Description
The evaluation of the students is performed with oral examination in the taught material at the end of the semester. Laboratory classes are mandatory and are conducted in 28 people groups . After the completion of the laboratory classes, the students are evaluated with written exams and the "excellent" is included in a percentage of 10% of the oral exam grade. The inclusion of the laboratory performance in its total score is valid in the same and in the next semester.
