Following successful completyion of this course, students have acquired basic knowledge concerning the aetiology, epidemiology, biology, screening & diagnosis and treatment of the commonest cancers.

Course Content (Syllabus)
General Oncology Carcinogenesis; Tumour evolution and metastatic process; Histology and cancer staging; Molecular diagnosis; Pharmacogenomics. Epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic and therapeutic approach for: Brain tumours; Lung cancer; Mesothelioma; Breast cancer; Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); Biliary Tree Cancer; Renal cancer and urinary tract cancers; Benign and malignant tumours of the gastroenteric tract: oesophagus, stomach, colon and rectum, GIST, NETs; Melanoma; Bone tumours: primary tumours and secondary tumours; Soft tissue sarcoma; Paraneoplastic syndromes; Chemotherapy and targeted therapy for cancer, radiotherapy, radio metabolic therapy (RMT), pain therapy and anti-emetic therapy. Surgical Oncology Breast cancer surgery; Colon-and rectum cancer surgery; Pancreatic cancer surgery; Oncological surgery of biliary tract; Oncological surgery of liver; Oesophagal cancer surgery; Gastric cancer surgery; Melanoma; Surgery for Thyroid and parathyroid cancer.
