Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. understand different types of healthcare systems and the Greek healthcare system. 2. learn the basic principles of Primary Health Care and General Practice. 3. learn about active patient-centred listening in consultation. 4. understand the basic principles of health prevention and health promotion. 5. learn basic clinical skills, such as infection control, medical history taking, vital signs measurement, injection techniques, BLS-AED. 6. implement what they learned in simulation at the Clinical Skills Centre in Primary Health Care Units.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Health and society, Medicine and health politics, Introduction to Primary Health Care, Structure and function of hospitals, Teamwork and healthcare team in the community, Health promotion, Care in home, Human-centered care, Introduction in clinical examination, Diagnosis in general practice, Patient – doctor relationship, Patients’ rights, Medical professionalism, Introduction in basic clinical skills: Infection control (hand hygiene, gloving, safe waste disposal), Vital signs measurement (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation), Injections (intradermal, intramuscular, subcutaneous), Basic Life Support and use of automatic external defibrillator (BLS-AED).

Description
Study of educational material via elearning. Discussion forums on selected clinical cases. Communication between students and co-ordinators using a closed group on social media (facebook). Written test via elearning quiz.

Description
Students’ formative assessment is based on their interactive essays after visiting the hospital emergency room and primary healthcare facilities. Students’ summative assessment is based on a written test (multiple choice and short answer questions).
