Course Content (Syllabus)
Livestock breeding in Greece and other countries. Sectors of animal production (importance, forms and breeding systems). Basis of Reproduction factors, Genetic variation and improvement, management and conservation of livestock. Brief description of the anatomy of the female and male reproductive system. Principles knowledge of the Physiology of reproduction (characteristics of the reproductive cycles, puberty - estrous cycle - estrous - ovulation - hormones involved in reproduction). Seasonality of reproduction. Fertilization, pregnancy, parturition. Reproduction of sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, horses. Reproductive traits of the major livestock breeds.Sheep production (breeds and production systems). Goat production (breeds and production systems). Cattle production (breeds and production systems). Poultry production (breeds and production systems)
