Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. achieve soil mapping of an agricultural area 2. assess land suitability of an agricultural area 3. use GIS for soil mapping and suitability assessment in a preliminary level.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Soil mapping methods. Soil chartography. Stereo view and remote sensing for soil mapping. Digital soil mapping. Spatial interpolation of point measurements for thematic mapping. Sources and harmonization of soil data. Methods for automated soil mapping. Procedures and equipment for field survey. Maps from soil scanners. Thematic maps of soil erosion risk. Aims and methods for land evaluation. Systems for land suitability assessment. Thematic maps of land suitability. Use of Geographic Information Systems in soil mapping and evaluation. Case studies.
