Upon completion of this course, students will be able to Know:
1. the physiology of growth αnd development of the horticulural plants,
2. the plant growth regulators and theire applications on horticultural crops
3. the seed and bud dormancy
4. the juvenility, vernalization, photoperiodism.
5. the physiology of fruit developement and the senescence stage of plants.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Growth and development of horticultural plants, patterns of growth, the plant cell as the basis of growth. Plant growth regulators: Auxins, Gibberellins, Cytokines, Growth inhibitors, Growth retardants, Ethylene, Polyamines, Brassinosteroids, Salicylic acid, Jasmonate. Germination: Biochemical processes during germination. Seed and Bud dormancy. Physiology of adventitious root and bud formation. Tuber and bulb formation. Abscission: Anatomy, physiology, regulation. Apical dominance. Juvenilily: Morphological and physiological characteristics. Photoperiodism , vernalization, chemical regulation. Physiology of fruit development. Senescence of plants.
