Learning Outcomes
Students will have an extensive and broad understanding of architectural criticism, as well as of theory of space and design. will be exposed to the critical presentation of the work of important architects will be able to offer a critical appraisal of an architectural work will be able to present their ideas systematically, to do a short literature review and to write a short paper.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course introduces students to contemporary architectural theory, its origins and its epistemological definition. The course, through lectures, provides a general overview of these fields. The lectures cover the following topics: a) a review of architectural thought, the categories in which architectural thought is evident (history, theory, criticism, design methodology), the relationship between these categories and their main representatives in the 20th and 21st centuries, b) an overview of current trends in avant-garde architecture through examples, c) aspects of design theory and architectural synthesis focusing on issues such as compositional structure creativity, concept, personal architectural style and creativity.
