Learning Outcomes
It is expected that students will:
-develop an extensive knowledge of the issues on space and representation as put together by the Avant-garde in Art and Architecture in the 20th and 21st century.
-understand the multiple connections that exist between the History, Theory and Criticism of Art and Architecture.
-study critically important essays and text on the history, theory and criticism of art and architecture
-develop the capacity to critically analyse padadigmatic architectural and artistic case studies

Course Content (Syllabus)
The metropolitan condition throughout the 20th century, has been the field of the most radical experimentation within the Architectural and Artistic avant-gardes. The continuous transformation of the urban environment and its series of echoes, made the Metropolis (1900s-1960s) and the Metapolis (1960s-…) the privileged field of architectural, artistic and socio-political experimentations of the avant-garde for the understanding, interpretation, and recapturing of modern life.
The course will examine these dynamic episodes of the 20th century where architects, artists, filmmakers, designers (applied arts) and writers attempted radical revisions of space concocting visionary, radical and often "wonderful" proposals.
The examination of the ideas and proposals for the city will include views and proposals as they appear both in architecture, in the visual and performative arts, in exhibition design and set design, in cinema, in literature, in the applied arts and printed press.
