Learning Outcomes
Cognitive: Approaching the educational process through new learning environments with the help of technology. Minimization for the cost of teaching. Acquisition of information and knowledge in the ever expanding flexible learning zone. Upgrading the virtual classroom in the axes of Organizational, Technological and Cognitive Flexibility. Use of new teaching methodologies such as Educational Interactive Television.
Skills: Optimization of client-server environments for the provision of teaching within the flexible zone based on the metrics and indices for Transactional Distance. Programming, maintenance and expansion into the digital world of computer systems, such as portable and mobile technologies, that students as "Education Engineers" are promoting in the expanded zones of flexible learning. Measurements, simulations, and assessments of learning indicators according to the applied models.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course for "flexible learning" examines ways in which the Internet technology and the widespread use of mobile devices can reduce or even eliminate barriers to learning.
The course familiarizes the student with the object gradually, commencing with the presentation of a general conceptual framework for flexible learning, progressing to "classical" topics of distance education and e-learning (and in particular distance learning), and concludes with particular issues on adaptive educational systems, and collaborative and virtual educational environments of the Internet.
These subjects are: e-Learning & m-Learning. Distance learning services. Communication services and Internet collaboration (e-mail, newsgroups, interactive whiteboards, virtual classrooms, audio-and videoconferencing).
Finally, it presents a series of brief but yet targeted learning objects focusing on modern development tools for
(a) educational websites,
(b) digital learning material, and
(c) the use of mobile devices as "ubiquitous" active learning assistants.
The students attending successfully the "Flexible Learning" course ensure the following career prospects:
- They obtain the "Educational and Teaching Competence Certificate" in Informatics, with all the privileges associated with it for a career in the field of Education, provided of course they have attended some more courses from the Department of Informatics and the School of Philosophy.
-They become in practice what is internationally called "Education Engineers". That is, experts in programming, maintaining and extending to the digital world the computer systems that promote the expanded zones of any form of flexible learning.
- In addition, special emphasis is placed on interactive distance learning, as a key component for the transfer of courses to the flexible zone under the current conditions, which are associated with the limitations for the spread of Covid-19 disease.
