Basic knowledge of the Earth’s interior characteristics, understanding of the seismic waves propagation. Determination of the earthquake focal parameters and estimation of their magnitudes.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Main geophysical features of the earth, theory of the plate tectonics. Theory of elasticity and elastic waves, seismic waves and their propagation in the earth’s interior. Seismographs, seismometers and determination of the earthquake focal parameters. Seismotectonics. Earthquake Prediction. Macroseismic effects. Seismic reflection and seismic refraction in Seismology and Applied Geophysics.
