Course Content (Syllabus)
The main subject of the course is the legal framework of the relations between national law and European Union law. The issues under examination are the fundamental principles that rule this framework and, in particular, the issues of immediate effect, supremacy and efficient application of European Union law in the legal order of member states. Special emphasis is given on the issue of efficient application of directions. Τhe cooperation between national courts and the Court of the European Union in the context of preliminary ruling and, moreover, the responsibility of member states due to their non-compliance with European Union law are, also, examined. In the framework of this specific course, the relations between international law and European Union law are examined as well. The deepening in these issues is achieved mainly through the analysis of the case law of the Court of the European Union and decisions of national courts. The aim of the course is for the participants to get familiar with the ways of efficient application of European Union law and the preferential treatment of the latter by the competent national authorities and national courts.
