Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course the student will have:
• understood the basic concepts of the various art forms and their connection to global education and art education
• acquired a first acquaintance of the main tools and techniques for stimulating pupils and he/she will have got involved in expressing themselves through various art forms
• been able to distinguish the key benefits from engagement with the arts at individual and social level
• tried to meditate, experiment and work with fellow students to create and present a joint artistic project.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Art in Education advocates the value of teaching a foundation of basic skills and concepts, along with cultural and art history phenomena. Emphasis is given on the educational role of the visual arts and their connection to the educational process and school life as well as their key role in the development and cultivation of the individual.
This course aims at raising understanding of the importance of the arts in cultural and social awareness of the people and especially young learners at primary school. Moreover, students through various activities get acquainted with various art forms and techniques.
A parallel objective is to enable students to respond to the modern approach to global knowledge through interdisciplinary applications, realizing how the arts can contribute significantly to the abolition of strict dividing lines between the various disciplines.
