Learning Outcomes
The module is designed specifically for students of Primary Education and adjusted to their needs and interests, in connection with both the History Didactics and History Didactics with ICTs modules. For this reason, ICTs are used extensively during the module (Office, Ppt presentations, WWW, film etc.). This module therefore functions as a suggested teaching framework which makes extensive use of ICTs and historical sources analysis (mainly visual sources), as well as food for thought in relation to the teaching of history and the nature of historical knowledge in the digital 21st century context. The module’s aim is, among others, to develop skills of historical thinking and skills of media literacy, and historical media literacy in particular. By the end of this course students will be able to: - Have a global view of the important historical developments that have shaped the contemporary world. - Integrate national history in the major historical phenomena - See connections between what happens in the national or local context with developments in the European and world contexts. - Use sources of European and global history in order to enrich the material of Greek history they will be teaching in the Greek school, based on the current national curriculum.

Module contents: 1. End of 19th century- beginning of 20th century: European and World context. 2. Europe and the world on the eve of the First World War 3. World War I. 4. The Bolshevik Revolution. 5. Balkan Wars and the Minor Asia disaster. 6. The Interwar period. 7. World War II. 8. The Greek Civil War. 9. The Cold War. 10. The Cold War 2- world perspectives. 11. Social movements of the 1960s. 12. The collapse of socialism. 13. The post-colonial world and the challenges of the end of the 20th century.

Description
New technologies are used throughout the course. Powerpoint presentations, video and audio clips and educational software are used during the lecture. Το communicate with students outside the classroom, email, the module’s page on Elearning, or videoconferences through Skype are used. Last, students are assessed formatively during the term by working in groups or individually on the module Wiki in the module’s page in Elearning. The summative assessment is completed by handing in their assignments either by email or through the relevant application in Elearning.

Description
Students will be assessed on the basis of a group written assignment (circa 1,500 words) or video assignment (historical documentary, roughly 10 minutes long). The topics chosen must be related to issues of Contemporary World history. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to: 1. The causes of the Bolshevik Revolution. 2. Everyday life during the German occupation of Greece. 3. Representation of World War II in world cinema- comparative study etc.
