Learning Outcomes
To appropriate historical knowledge of the impoortant historical events on Modern and Contemporary Greek History. To approach the modern and contemporary period of Greek History from the perspective of historiography and historical studies. To problematize the dominant historical versions of this historical period as they are taught at schools or diffused in the public space of history To fill the gaps of school historical knowledge and to approach issues of modern history which are absent in school history Relate historical developments in Greece with the broader Balkan, European or international developments To improuve their representations about the past and history in general To discover the value of multiperspectivity in the study of historical phenomena

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course is developed in the following sections: 1. The period of Ottoman domination: the great constitutional complex myths for the period of the Ottoman domination. 2. The Greek Revolution: The questions of historians on the Revolution. 3. Balkans and the Balkan Wars. 4. World War I, the Asia Minor Campaign and the Exit 5. The Interwar period: the section is devoted to the rise of totalitarian regimes in Europe. Fascism in Italy, Nazism in Germany, Francoism in Spain, and the Metaxa dictatorship constitute special cases of study 6. World War II, the resistance, the civil war and "stone years" in Greece.
