Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of the course is to approach the sociolinguistic aspects of translation including a brief introduction to the course of Sociolinguistics, its relation with Linguistics, the branches of Sociolinguistics, and its contribution to the study of the language. The course is also focused in language contact (bilingualism, multilingualism, diglossia, dialects, accents, créoles, idiolects, sociolects, technolects), translation and cultural mediation. Moreover, the students will study sociolinguistic phenomena such as the translation of register, how translation and cultural mediation are connected with code switching, and the course from language deviation (dialect, accent, créoles, regional languages, youth language, jargon, slang, franglais, verlan) to norm, and also the translation of such deviation into Modern Greek.
