The course has no formal prerequisites.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful course completion, students will be able to: understand the up-to-date scientific approaches on drug treatment including CBT, MI, PTSD, Relapse Prevention, Therapeutic Community Model, Self-Help groups etc. as well as interventions in young adutls and adolescents. Moreveover, the impact of substitution programmes in treatment facilitation will be discussed. Emphasis will be given to programmes developed in Greece with special reference on the development of therapeutic communities and harm reduction programmes. Readiness for treatment, matching psychosocial with medical oriented programmes will be discussed along with the multi-disciplinary treatment staff role.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course will cover the following themes:
-Readiness for treatment
-Diagnosis and treatment planning.
-Self-help and mutual help groups.
- The development and evolution of therapeutic communities.
-Harm reduction.
-Evidence Based treatment programmes.
-The role of substitution and antagonists in motivation for treatment and relapse prevention
- Individual and family change process
-THe dynamics of change in TC systems
-The role of the multi-disciplinary groups.

Description
During teaching participatory methods will be used along with lectures, seminars, role play and critical dialogue. Moodle will also be used for effective communication with students.
