Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will: - Develop the ability to render volume, planes, and space from the human model, and objects' composition set in the studio using charcoal, acrylics, ink, pencil, etc. - Study in-depth the human figure through plastic sketches and bust from a human model or a casted head. - Understand through practice, the use of different mediums as well as the technology of materials that are used in sculpture, such as clay, plaster, marble, metal, wood, resins, etc. - Gain the ability to process an artistic concept in a small scale 3D preparatory maquette for a sculpture. - Produce an autonomous work of art on a small, medium, or bigger scale in clay, plaster, metal, marble, wood, etc. - Become familiar with visual arts' terminology that is used in sculpture both at the theoretical and technical level.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Gradual familiarization and development of students' visual vocabulary, setting sculpture as the main core. Daily studio practices with various materials combined with seminars, presentations, and visits to art spaces in Greece and abroad, lay students' primary foundation for an artistic inquiry into sculpture. The class includes drawing exercises from observation -human model, objects- with various materials such as charcoal, ink, acrylic, pencil, etc. as well as plastic sketches from the human model mainly with clay. Seminars on the use of multiple mediums such as metal, marble, wood, plaster, and other materials as resins, ceramics, wax, etc. Combined exercises on various topics focused on students' first steps towards artistic research and experimentation with materials. Concept design exercises are also introduced to create 3D plastic maquettes for large-scale sculptures, creating their own personal work of art by applying certain techniques and mediums. Seminars on sculpture and its presence through the history of Contemporary Art. Presentation of a specific topic with an emphasis on contemporary sculptors and trends through which the students will initiate their personal research by using bibliography from the library, visits to museums, art spaces, internet, etc. Discussions referring to the relationship between form and content in sculpture as it appears in their artistic proposal. Exhibitions and collaborative artistic hands-on practices are organized with social and educational institutes to enhance both students' artistic and educational skills.

Description

Description
Continuous assessment (daily, mid-term) Homework Oral presentations. Studio and practical exercises. Final examination and exhibition of the students' artistic work at the end of the semester.
