Course Content (Syllabus)
Social history, the narrative of social processes and relationships, seeks the elements, structure and interconnections of human society, in its manifestations and in its historical continuity, in order to identify the multifaceted mechanisms of its evolution. It attempts to understand and interpret the course of evolution, with a theoretical generalization of events that have unfolded in the relations between people. Scientific methods are selected to set up systems for assessing the position of the various factors in society, in an effort to reveal trends in the historical process. In Social History courses, “culture”, proposed as a category of analysis, is an important means of approaching social reality. The cultural approach of social phenomena indicates the remarkable contribution of the parameter “culture” to the students’ introduction into systems of codes and values. The courses attempt to conceive the historical fact through a synthesis, combining the study of culture together with the category “economy” which is considered to be basic and fundamental in the construction of values, consciousness and culture itself. The courses’ perspective is enriched with a turn to a debate on culture and on its parameters. Some of the questions of culture, which are being investigated, correspond to manifestations of social groups that share common identity elements such as national sentiment Our research for the relationship between culture and the movement of nations and other social groups includes a set of values, beliefs, attitudes and practices, which constitute the way of living of each group. Other issues of culture, which are being treated, are related to the defense of fundamental human rights. Basic knowledge to be acquired: At the level of theory, it is sought on behalf of the students to understand the process in which the science of History, and in general the Human and Social Sciences, obey. Students are also encouraged to become familiar with technical and analytical tools, when carrying out research papers. The perception of History that students acquire will prove valuable in understanding social phenomena, broadening their horizon and helping them to fulfill, in the future, tasks in their professional careers face to their own audience (toddlers), to the other specialties of Early Childhood Education Sciences and to the various related activities that they may be engaged.
