With the successful completion of the course the students are expected to: •Elaborate theoretical notions concerning the relation between literature, society, education •Know a model of teaching literature in primary and secondary education •Discuss a series of specific problems of teaching literature, concerning both the content and the teaching methods •Be able to criticize and assess literature curricula

Course Content (Syllabus)
The purpose of this course is to offer a systematic framework of principles, aims and methods for teaching literature. In particular, it aims at a critical redefinition of the content and methods of the literature class, informed by cultural studies, theories of literature and children’s literature as well as critical pedagogy. Among the issues that are being discussed are: •Basic theories of literature that facilitate the understanding of the complexity of the phenomenon of literature and various approaches towards it. •The interrelation between the literary and the educational institution. •The formulation of the literary canon of contemporary Greek literature •Τhe complex issue of teaching values through literature . •Ways of organizing the literature lesson and teaching approaches for the various literary genres. Those are: a) ability of composition kwowledge from many sources: lectures, study of bibliography and various literature curricula. b) critical thinking on the topics that have been discussed in class c) performance in the field
