Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to a) give information about the value of the Old Testament for theological study and ecclesiastical theology, b) follow and understand the key issues of scientific study and research of the OT, c) answer questions concerning the formation and contents of the Old Testament books.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course "Introduction to the Old Testament" informs about the content, the formation, the history and the theology of the books of the Old Testament and their canonical collection. It aims to introduce the students to the research field of the Old Testament in order to understand a) its significance for the Theology and its ecclesiastical application, b) the main issues and problems in modern research, c) the major modern approaches, d) the trajectory of modern research and the evaluation of its results and e) the way the books were formed and collected.

3. The history of the Old Testament canon
4. The text-history of the Old Testament. The Hebrew original- masoretic
5. Hebrew Bible Translations and Qumran-texts
6. The Septuagint: history, method, modern research
7. Special Introduction: Introduction to the Pentateuch. The composition of the Pentateuch
8. Pentateuchal books: synthesis, structure, content, theology
