Course Content (Syllabus)
This course aims at a first encounter of the students with the issue trascribing oral traditions in musical notation. It beggins with an overview of the methods of Transcription in the field of Ethnomusicology and the discussion of its theories upon the issue of the musical transcription. Later in the process of the lectures there is a presentation of the different ways to transfer and consequently to analyze the oral musical traditions on the musical staff and the European musical notation offering the necessary explanations in order to help the students to recognize practically the characteristics of the modal systems as well as the pentatonic ones in the environs of the Greek musical cultures.
