Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will: Understand the sociological theory of Basil Bernstein They will be able to apply the theory to social and pedagogical phenomena They will be able to recognize in social reality the analytical categories of theory They will be able to discuss and compare BB theory with other sociological theories.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Basil Bernstein's pedagogical theory is examined, including language codes, pedagogical discourse, visible and invisible pedagogy. Along with Bernstein's texts, research texts by other researchers using his theory will be studied. Introduction to the problem of cultural reproduction • About classification and framing of pedagogical knowledge • Social class and pedagogical practices • Codes, modes and processes of cultural reproduction • The construction of pedagogical discourse • APPENDIX: Bernstein's Experiments, Application of Bernstein's Theory in Second Chance Schools
