Learning Outcomes
With the successful completion of the course, students will be able to: - distinguish the differences between the characteristics of composite materials of metal, ceramic and polymer matrix. - understand the contribution of the reinforcement. - manufacture composite materials of metal and polymer matrix. - characterize the structure and properties of composite materials.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction, general principles, definitions and categorization of composite materials (CM): Types of CM metal, polymeric and ceramic matrix, General characteristics of their structure, Historical flashback, Interaction between their characteristics, The concept of load bearing capacity. Matrix and reinforcement phase materials, reinforcement phase geometry, design - interface role: Fibre and particle reinforcement composites, Intersurfaces of composite materials between fibre and matrix, Stratified composite materials, Common metal polymers, carbonated and ceramic matrices, Manufacturing/forming methods and properties of polymeric, ceramic and metal fibres. Production and properties of metal, polymeric and ceramic CM: The basic methodologies for the production of metal matrix composites (Wet-state processes, Soaking processes, distribution processes, spraying processes, self-cleaning processes, solid state processes. Mechanical behaviour and Structure of complex MATERIALS SY: Basic micromechanical relationships of SY properties based on the properties of the amplification and matrix, and as a function of the microstructure and the layout of the supporting phase. Applications and typical examples of CM. Within the framework of the course, the following Laboratory Exercises will take place: Production and characterization of metal matrix composites by powder metallurgy Study of the structure and properties of metal matrix composites Production of a polymer matrix composites, study of their structure and properties
