Learning Outcomes
Upon the successful completion of the course, the students will be able: • to describe the basic concepts and definitions of public transportation, • to know the organizational structure of public transportation in Greece, the standards, the functional and geometric characteristics of the networks, the rolling stock, the operation of bus lines and public information systems, • to understand the role of public transport accessibility for people with disabilities (PwD), and • to carry out financial operations’ analyses as well as measurements and research on public transportation, to calculate the capacity of bus lines and the routing of buses.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction, basic concepts and definitions. Organizational structure of public transport (bodies and system) in Greece. Research and measurements in public transport. Estimation of transport capacity of bus lines. Bus routing calculation. Operational and geometric characteristics of the bus network. Rolling stock. Exploitation of bus lines-standards. Economic analysis of operations, evaluation, criteria. Information systems to the public. The interurban bus transport system. Urban public transport systems on fixed routes. Public transport systems and people with disabilities.
