Learning Outcomes
Understanding the highlights of humanity (mankind) in History and Philosophy of Biology. Analysis of the major theories of Biology. Modern views: controversies, convergence of views about the phenomenon of life. Assessment of the role of history in sciences. Awareness and assessment of biology as a science and way of life. Analysis and synthesis of theories, development of combinatorial and critical skills.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Lectures: The intergration of Biology as science: Milestones. Teleology and randomness in biological systems: views, evidence, proofs. Levels of organization in biological systems. Genetic material and environment. Concepts of stability and change. Survival strategies. The evolutionary proccess. Alternative views. Current trends in biological research and practice. Bioethical impact of progress in biological research. Humans as members and modulators of biological systems. What next? What is the bio- future? (the future of biology?)
