Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to: 1. Understand the dimensions of sustainability (political, ideological, economical and cultural) as well as the value system that supports them. 2. Understand and discuss the concept of Environmental Education (ΕΕ) and Education for the Environment and Sustainability (EdES) as well as the signifigancy of EE and EdES to educate citizens able to ensure the function of the envitonment in the frame of sustainability 3. Understand the pedagogical framework of EE and EdES and specifically pedagogical approaches such as interdisciplinary, systemic approach, critical and systemic though, collaborative learning, values, ability to act, participation, democracy, active citizen 4.Define the conceptual frame and problematic of EdES 5. Design, implement and evaluate specific interventions to educate individuals (children and adults) about the environment and sustainability in formal and non-formal education 6. Suggest specific pedagogical methods for the education of people (children and adults) for the environment and sustainability in formal and non-formal education 7. Propose strategies to raise awareness of the environment and related issues 8. Understand and promote the 17 global goals for sustainable development 9. Promote sustainable school and sustainable educational structures

Course Content (Syllabus)
The module aims to analyze the concept of environmental education, education for the environment and sustainability, environmental problems, environmental degradation and social injustice, ecosystem, and sustainability within the frame of the interrelationship between human, environment and society. The theoretical, philosophical, conceptual framework, goals, values and principles of Environmental Education (EE), as well as the evolution of EE to Education for the Environment and Sustainability (EdES)are discussed. The module also aims to analyze the environmental and pedagogical principles of EE and EdES including ecosystem approach to environmental problems, interdisciplinary approaches in environmental education, systemic and critical thinking, as crucial for the examination of the environment's systemic character and analysis of the environmental crisis. The students are also become familiar with several educational methods for the implementation of the environmental education in preschool education. The 17 global goals for sustainable development are discussed and analyzed. Also the concept of "sustainable school" is also discussed.

Lectures are supported by the use of digital material such as power point files, videos and movies. These materials are also available through the e-learning digital platform. The e-learning digital platform are also used for the communication with the students. Several software (f.e. photostory) are used by the students for for designing digital stories in the frame of students evaluation.
