Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Become familiar with methods of classical and especially instrumental chemical analysis.
2. Understand the principals of operation and the parts of the instruments that used in the most common techniques of instrumental chemical analysis.
3. Carry out the most common laboratory methods for the determination of the major metalls and non-metals in irrigation waters and liquid samples in general, and evaluate the precision and reproducibility of the measurements.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to the principals and statistics of chemical analysis. Classical methods of chemical analysis. Gravimetric analysis: determination of soil moisture and ash of plant material. Titrimetric analysis: Determination of Cl and ΗCΟ3 content in irrigation waters. Methods of instrumental chemical analysis. Conductivity measurement: EC determination in irrigation waters. pH measurement: pH determination in irrigation waters. Calibration curves. UV-Vis spectrometry: determination of NO3, P and B in irrigation waters. Flame photometry: determination of K and Na in irrigation waters. Atomic absorption spectrometry: determination of Ca and Mg in irrigation waters.
