To understand the structure and the operational characteristics of power generation plants with conventional fossil fuels or renewable energy sources.
To understand the operation of basic power system components in steady state and dynamic operational conditions
To learn the basic operational characteristics of synchronous generators and 3phase power transformers
To understand the structure of electric power transmission and distribution grids
To learn to analyse the operation of short power transmission lines and to control the voltage drop and power losses along the transmission lines
To become familiar with the reactive power compensation in power consumers
To understand the structure of the Low Voltage electric power installations and the protection against electric shock.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Basic concepts of power systems, ac circuit analysis, 3phase circuit analysis. active and reactive power. The per-unit (p.u.) system. History of the electric power systems, electric power generation plants, transmission system, distribution system. Operation of power systems, cost of electricity.
Synchronous generators and power transformers basic operational characteristics.
Overhead transmission and distribution lines, construction elements, equivalent electric circuit of short 3phase power transmission line, power relations. Voltage regulation, reactive power compensation.
Basic components and structure of electrical LV installations, protection from electric shock, design of electrical installations.
