Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students should:
a) know the operation of induction machines (three phase and single phase),
b) know construction details of the induction machines,
c) be able to analyze the operation of the machine through the equivalent circuit,
d) know basic design elements of an induction machine,
e) be able to experimentally determine the parameters of the equivalent circuit.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Three-phase induction machines: rotating magnetic field, magnetomotive force and flux distribution, principle operation, distributed windings, harmonic problems and fractional pitch, power flow and losses, torque in induction motors, equivalent circuit, induction motor characteristic curves, basic principles of induction motor design, speed control, induction generator and its applications, induction motor ratings. Single-phase motors:
Universal motor, connection and speed control, single phase induction motor, theory of operation, starting single-phase induction motors, circuit model and speed control.
