Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students:
1. They will be able to understand the basic concepts of Anatomy and in particular those of the structural elements of the human body that show special practical application in clinical medicine.
2. They will have all the necessary knowledge required to fully understand the clinical courses provided in the next years of their studies but also in the practice of medical science after the end of their studies.
3. They will be able to gradually develop a research activity related to the subject of General Anatomy in collaboration and under the constant supervision of their teachers as well as with other units of the Medicine Department.
4. They will be able to participate in social training activities on topics related to the subject of the Laboratory or wider social and scientific issues (lectures, briefings, visits to the premises of the Laboratory)
Course Content (Syllabus)
The General Anatomy or Introduction to Human Anatomy should be considered as an Introduction to the basic concepts of this field, which will help the student to better understand the courses that will be taught during their medical studies. As an Introduction course, it includes a few concepts that mainly belong in Cytology and Histology. In General Anatomy, an attempt is made to correlate the anatomical terms with their clinical significance, giving more emphasis to Functional and less to Descriptive Anatomy. The macroscopic anatomy of the various organic systems of the body is roughly described, while in addition this course is reinforced with topics related to the methods used to study Anatomy, the concepts of physiological and variability in Anatomy, the organization of structural elements of the body, depending on the sex and constitution of the individual and the growth of the body. Special emphasis is given to the parts-regions of the body as well as to the leading anatomical landmarks since most physicians rarely examine tissues under the skin.
