Learning Outcomes
The students learn about the epistemological issues underpinning the qualitative research and become familiar with the collection and analysis of empirical data in a qualitative inquiry. Student become aware and understand the logical fallacies, which appear n, the argumentation developed in a research endeavor where there is lack of strong empirical evidences.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is an introduction to qualitative research methodology applied to Pedagogy, Psychology, Education and Social Sciences in general. First, the basic philosophical assumptions and the epistemological framework is presented and discussed along with contemporary advances in human thinking and knowledge. Second, a number of research approaches fostered in qualitative methodologies concerning the collection of empirical data are taught with emphasis to the interviews, observations and focus groups. Third, the most popular methods and practices in data analysis are presented: discourse analysis, grounded theory, phenomenology, and hermeneutics, narrative analysis, content analysis, ethnography and action research. Students are called to design and carry out small projects, individually or in groups, write reports and present their research. In addition, ethical considerations and evaluation issues are discussed. Attendance and the project work are mandatory for all participants, for which the course assessment is based mainly on their contribution to course work.
