Learning Outcomes
After the succesful completion of the course, the postgraduate student will be able to: - Plan residential areas, free urban spaces and buildings with bio-climatic criteria, so that the proper environmental conditions are ensured at all levels and the cost reduction in energy consumption and, consequently, in negative environmental impacts caused by greenhouse gases is achieved. - Have a strong opinion on the interaction of buildings and the environment. - Acknowledge the possibilities of minimization of the total environmental impact caused by the construction and use of building and evaluating it through the application of suitable methods - Contribute to the design of buildings using criteria of energy saving and environmental protection and the application of environmental-friendly materials and technologies.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Bioclimatic design and performance of the built environment, urban areas and open spaces. Bioclimatic design and performance of buildings; Passive solar systems for heating; Thermal comfort; Daylighting. Energy balance; Thermal flows between the building and the ambient environment. Nearly zero energy buildings; Passive Haus buildings. Environmental performance of buildings; life cycle analysis; environmental impacts; sustainability in building construction, RES in buildings. Presentation of materials, constructional solutions, calculation tools and examples.
