Learning Outcomes
The students, having learnt the technical and compositional innovations that have taken and are taking place in opera, musical theater, dance music, happening etc. in the works of composers such as Cage, Stockhausen, Aperghis, Goebbels, Furrer among others, they will be able to write music in such a way. It should be emphasized that the aim of the course is not to acquire knowledge of techniques for simple music of theatrical productions but the knowledge and use of innovative techniques and compositional/aesthetic approaches for music that does not have just a role equal to the other arts involved in the overall production of a performance art work but is the main and generative factor of the whole work.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course concerns the composition for performing arts, mainly opera, music theater, dance. It is mainly a practical course in the sense that the students will write music during the semester and, secondly, a theoretical one since the music for performing arts (of 20th and 21st centuries) will be approached by a historic-theoretical view. The course will focus on the technical and compositional innovations that took place in the genres of opera, music theater, music for dance, happening, in the compositional work of composers like Cage, Stockhausen, Aperghis, Goebbels, Furrer among others.
