Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of the course, students are expected to: -Be aware of the different structures of citizenship that were attempted to be institutionalized by the greek school in several times. -Understand the long-term role of education in citizenship. -Be able to recognize and explain the different approaches of socialization of the Greek school in several times. -Distinguish and analyze the functions of school knowledge and educational practices in shaping citizenship over time. -Reflect on the current role that school plays in civic education.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course intends to present the basic directions in citizenship education followed by the Greek education system over time. The course is structured on the following axes: - Historical forms of citizenship - Citizenship education as a political and social stake - Sociological and pedagogical approaches to civic education throughout the history of the Greek school - Political socialization in the Greek school from the 19th century to the end of the 20th century - Citizenship education as a school subject
