Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to: 1. Posses the necessary skills of academic literacy in order to cope with the requirements of their assignments and their studies in general 2. Distinguish between different kinds of scientific works and their structural components, specifying the basic and related concepts of content and their connections 3. Compound theoritical and empirical part of a scientific work integrating accordingly numerical data, tables, graphs and diagrams to present results 4. Formulate their thoughts with clarity, precision and cohesion using academic style and efficiently face matters of language, terminology and translation of terms and to avoid any kind of plagiarism 5. Acquire adequate knowledge in searching data and sources (in printed and electronic format), in using and evaluate them, as well as in recording biblioraphy using relative international standards (APA, Chicago Style) 6. Absorb and use the basic language, meannings and realative terminology of scientific approach and to face writing assignments as an act of critical literacy

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims at familiarizing students with academic literacy and in general with the conventions of academic practice. All kinds of scientific work are examined and their structure, content and form are analyzed. Matters of terminology, documentation, meaningful coherence, linguistic wording, syntax and expression are discussed. A concept map and a diagram of each scientific work is delimited. Technical formatting of text and use of tables, graphs, diagrams and pictures are practised. Methodological and epistemological problems in writing papers are discussed and analyzed. Search for bibliography, data and sources (in printed and electronic format), as well as content organization and deepening the subject of the assignments are examined. Examples of recording and managing printed and electronic sources are quoted. Published studies and scientific articles of qualitative and quantitative research are evaluated and assessed. Dimensions of critical literacy in writing a scientific work are discussed. Matters of plagiarism and ethics in scientific practice are examined in details. International systems of references and citations are presented (APA, Chicago Style)

Description
Lectures are supported by digital presentations (powerpoint files) and other relative material (concept maps, scientific articles etc.). In laboratory practice students will use relative software (Word & Open Office) as well as search engines and software for finding, recording and managing bibliography. Communication with the students is implemented through email and through the digital platform (e-learning), where supportive educational material and students' assignments are also uploaded
